Digital Edo: Construction of Large-Scale Spatial Datasets of Han (Domain), Village, City, Road, and Coastline

This paper focuses on constructing multi-level, large-scale spatial datasets covering the Edo period. It details methods and challenges for building datasets for themes such as han (domain), village, city, main road, and coastline, concentrating on the assignment of identifiers and attributes, including location information. In addition to methods for utilizing these datasets, it introduces a new methodology for constructing datasets through open collaboration. Finally, it outlines the “Digital Edo” initiative, which integrates these achievements to build a semantic space and establish a data-driven experimental environment for historical big data research.
