Digital Typhoon: Emergency Information System Enabled by Ranking and Sharing of Multimedia Data

The Digital Typhoon project has the goal of building emergency information systems based on the ranking and sharing of multimedia data such as images, text, and sensor data. The current data from data streams are evaluated in the context of historical data, and they are ranked by relevance to help people in making decisions about the current situation. Our system is still experimental, but the Digital Typhoon Web site, with nearly 80 million page views in 5 years, demonstrates the usefulness of this approach.
