About the Termination of GOES-9 Satellite and the Usage of Visible Imagery
At 0300 UTC on July 14, 2005, GOES-9, which has been used as the primary geostationary meteorological satellite of Japan, terminated its dissemination service. From now on, Himawari-6 (MTSAT-1R) will serve as the primary meteorological satellite.
After the termination of GOES-9, the operation of this site changes as follows.
-
Infrared imagery
By today, we completed transition procedures of the system from GOES-9 to Himawari-6 (MTSAT-1R).
-
Visible imagery
As explained in Notice: About Himawari-6 Satellite and the Period of Transition, it is not possible to get the visible imagery of Himawari-6 through the Internet. Hence many services dependent on visible imagery will terminate for the time being. Please be aware that the usage of visible imagery will not be possible unless Japan Meteorological Agency changes its policy or we find other stable data providers.
