Digital Typhoon: Notice: Plan of Outreach Activities in 2006
Plan of Outreach Activities in 2006
This year, I am planning the following outreach activities to present this project to the general public and promote bidirectional communication.
NII Open House (June 8 to June 9, 2006)
National Institute of Informatics will hold Open House from June 8 to June 9, 2006. This project has a booth for presentation, so please come to the open house for discussion.
- Digital Typhoon: The Design of Near Real-time Large-scale Earth Databases Across Heterogeneous Data Streams
Digital Typhoon (http://www.digital-typhoon.org/) aims at realizing near real-time large-scale earth databases by integrating heterogeneous data streams such as imagery, text, and other earth observation data. This presentation evaluates the current system in terms of association, organization and retrieval of various data streams, and the construction and utilization of past cases contained in the databases. We also summarize the future extension of the system.
NII Shimin Koza (Public Lecture) (September 13, 2006)
National Institute of Informatics opens the Public Lecture every year, and this year I will have a course "Typhoon Information" on September 13, 2006. Unfortunatelly this lecture will be given in Japanese, but if it is OK for you, please make a registration on the Website.
Collaboration with Miraikan about Science Communication
We are planning a collaboration with Miraikan (National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation) about science communication. The detail is not yet fixed, but we plan to start collaboration from the viewpoint of the usage of information technology to make earth science data more familiar to the general public.
