Wind Map around Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (Google Maps Markers Version)

Visualized on Google Maps is wind data from the numerical weather prediction model GPV (meso scale model) by Japan Meteorological Agency at the surface level (10 meter height). You can see the wind dat all over eastern Japan centered on Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant of Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO). Moving the slider shows you the past and the future of wind direction and speed.

The recommended version of the wind map is the tiling version, which takes less time to see the data.

About Data

• This visualization is based on numerical weather prediction model GPV (meso scale model, MSM) from Japan Meteorological Agency. Because this is the output of a weather simulation model, please be aware that wind direction and speed may be different from the observation. Observed wind direction and speed is available at real-time AMeDAS wind map.
• Data is updated every three hours, but with a little delay to display the latest information.
• Interval is one hour for the surface level, and three hours for other levels.
• Predictions are available for 15 hours at 3, 9, 15, 21 JST, and for 33 hours at 0, 6, 12, 18 JST. Predictions are overwritten when newer data is available.
• The latest data is shown at the beginning. To see predictions, move the slider to the right; to see past data, move the slider to the left. Clicking the time updates the latest information.
• The red marker shows the location of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The circles shows distance from the plant, where the red circle represents 20km (evacuation zone), while the yellow circle represents 30km (indoor evacuation zone).
