Digital Typhoon: Near Real-time Typhoon Databases from the Fusion of Heterogeneous Data Streams

The goal of the ``Digital Typhoon'' project is 1) the rapid aggregation of various data streams that describe concurrent events occurring in the world in relation to typhoons, and 2) the construction of a useful system for the organization and delivery of emergency information such as disaster information using near real-time pattern recognition technology. This paper first characterizes typhoon-related heterogeneous data streams that consist of imagery, text and numerical data, and introduces the fusion of those data streams. It then discusses the future development of the system in the context of functionality that we realized on the web site (http://www.digital-typhoon.org/), which is freely available to the public.
