Book Barcoding Method: Comprehensive Analysis of the Bukan Complete Collection using Differential Reading of Woodblock-Printed Books

This paper proposes the “Book Barcoding” algorithm to realize the “differential reading” methodology for reading the difference between versions of woodblock-printed books. First, we show the possibility of a comprehensive collation of woodblock-printed books by combining the algorithms of image registration and stable marriage problem. We then confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experiment of differential transcription using the “differential reading platform” for the Bukan Complete Collection. Finally, the proposed method can be applied to any woodblock-printed books, having the prospect of evolving into the general-purpose collation platform for woodblock-printed books.
