This page provides a part of Himawari-8 data since July 7, 2015, and Himawari-9, which is waiting for backup. Geostationary Meteorological Satellites: Himawari, GOES, GMS and MTSAT and Satellite Images (Photographs) provides the basic information, and Himawari-8 Watching (in Japanese) provides other latest information.
A color image is created as a hybrid color image using band 1 through band 4, based on "Simple Hybrid Contrast-Stretch" method proposed in the following paper.

For the time being, Himawari-8 / Himawari-9 images are provided separately from the main "Digital Typhoon" website. Some images are exported to the main website, but high frequency images are provided on this page.
Technology used in Weather Satellite 'Himawari' Viewer can be referred to High Resolution Satellite Images and IIIF (International Image Interoperability Framework).
Himawari-8 / Himawari-9 data is obtained from NICT Science Cloud Himawari Satellite Project operated by National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT).
Data policy follows the NICT project. NICT Science Cloud also has a web page to release Himawari-8 / Himawari-9 images at Himawari-8 Real-time Web.
