1. Drift Ice in the Sea of Okhotsk in 2016
Himawari-8 Satellite, which started its operation on July 7, 2015, has revolutionalized observation by geostaionary satellites in terms of two points, namely high frequency observation and color image creation. After the 2016 season, the page offers a movie that connects hybrid color images between 11:00 and 13:00 JST.
This page shows satellite images of the Sea of Okhotsk in the following. In the left side of an image, you can see the island of Sakhalin and on the right of it you can see a white band extending vertically. This is the drift ice drifting on the Sea of Okhotsk. If you look at the animation drift ice can be recognized by noticing different types of movement; clouds change their forms every day, but the band changes slowly in one day (reference: other sources). Hokkaido is located at the bottom left.
