2. Summary

Open Science is a movement on transforming scientific research to a more "open" activity. Transformation is planned in several areas, and it is expected that scientific research is going to be more reliable, more participatory, and more fair activity. The present scientific research, however, is highly complex and sophisiticated system, and transformation may be blocked by people who support the present system. Moreover, a claim that transformation will bring about better sceintific research has limited evidences and may be considered as hypothesis. The present scientific research, nevertheless, may have difficulty in the future in relation to the society, and open science is attracting growing interest as a solution to problems.

3. Activities

Open science is a "movement" to change the way of conducting scentific reseach, and this involves various types of activities. The following is a summary of my actitivies about open science.

First, as an example of project-based activity, I served as the leader of "Open Science Special Interest Group (Study Group)" at DIAS Project with several motivated members. A brief summary is available at promoting open science in DIAS.

Second, as an exapmle of community-based activity, I participated in Data DOI Feasibility Study Project at Japan Link Center as the representative of DIAS project.

Furthermore, to promote open science in the humanities, we started Center for Open Data in the Humanities, Joint Support-Center for Data Science Research, Research Organization of Information and Systems from April 2016, with the aim of introducing the new methodology of research into the humanities through open data, transdisciplinary collaboration, and so on.
