The 2012 typhoon season had 25 typhoons, which is almost equal to the average. The number of typhoons approaching Okinawa and Amami was 12, which was much larger than the average of 7.6. At the same time, typhoons approaching Izu and Ogasawara Islands were 9, which was also larger then the average of 9.
