Typhoon PEWA is located near Midway Islands. However, it does not mean it was born here, but it changed from a hurricane to a typhoon after passing the 180E border. This kind of "across-the-border" typhoon is since Typhoon 200612 (IOKE). The name is not a usual Asian names of western north Pacific, but is not changed from hurricane names of Central Pacific.
For your information, this hurricane has been observed by Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC) in Honolulu before passing the border. The tracking chart of
Hurricane Pewa and Typhoon Pewa is available by connecting data from CPHC and Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).
