Typhoon KONG-RAY has passed in north of Saipan, and now passing over the northern part of North Mariana Islands. The size of clouds has decreased from the beginning while it is slightly getting stronger, reaching the peak intensity tonight. The typhoon has passed far from Guam, and it looks Sapian was not severely affected by the typhoon.

Typhoon KONG-RAY is moving northward taking Saipan within its 30kt wind area. This typhoon is not a strong one compared to powerful typhoons that have striked this area in the past, but it is forecast to intesity a little more to pass north of Saipan Island. Eyes on the Typhoon ( Typhoon Front) has received several reports from Northern Mariana Islands describing rains and winds before the approach of the typhoon.

Typhoon KONG-RAY was formed near Truk Islands (Chuuk Islands). According to Japan Meteorological Agency and others, this typhoon will move to Mariana Islands. This typhoon has big spiral clouds apparent on the satellite images of the globe, but it is forecast that intensification is rather limited.
For your reference, the first typhoon of 2006 was born in the beginning of May.
