Typhoon KUJIRA intensified rapidly off the east coast of Philippines, but it is still a small typhoon, which indicates that its change to intensify or weaken tends to be rapid. The visible imagery below does not show the eye of the typhoon, but other satellite observation data show that a very small eye is hidden under thick clouds around the center.

Typhoon KUJIRA was formed in east of Philippines, and is forecast to move away from the islands. The formation of the first typhoon on May 3 is the 10-th latest year in the statistics since 1951, but after considering the "true" typhoon season issue, this is the 15-th latest typhoon formation. So we can say that the first formation at this time of year is not so early but not so late (reference : the average birthday of the first typhoon).
