Summary of Information on Typhoons in 2009
2009-12-30
The 2009 typhoon season had 22 typhoons, which is a smaller number than average, and the same number with the 2008 typhoon season. This year we had the first typhoon in 2 years that made landfall at Japan, but the number of typhoons that drew near to Japan was less than the average. In particular, the number of typhoons that approached near Okinawa and Amami regions is 3, which is far less than the average (7.2), and even less than that approached near mainland Japan. On the other hand, Izu and Ogasawara Islands had 7 typhoons, which is more than the average (5.0). It seems that the tracks of typhoons tend to be in the south.
