Typhoon Pabuk was formed in South China Sea. It is forecast to move west to Kra Isthmus and may move to the Indian Ocean by passing the 100 degree line to become a cyclone. The typhoon was born on January 1, and became the first typhoon of the 2019 typhoon season. In the past, Typhoon 197901 was the earlist typhoon born on January 2, but no typhoon was born on January 1. However, the tropical depression before becoming the typhoon was born in 2018, so thhe JTWC number is 36W meaning it is a 2018 typhoon.
